Dr Punam Krishan

Hello and thank you for visiting my site.

Let's Banjo

Who doesn’t procrastinate from time to time? Or a lot...?

Our “to-do” lists can sometimes seem endless so we often choose to put them off or avoid them altogether. How often do you wish someone else will just do it for you?

Unless you’re the master of effective delegation (I’m not!) these nasty jobs rarely go away. Instead they lie there in our subconscious mind releasing background stress hormones which negatively impact on our mental and physical states of health. Our modern lifestyles are ideal breeding grounds for stress which in turn contributes to the development of inflammatory conditions, heart disease, digestive problems, type 2 diabetes, burnout....another endless list.!

So when I counsel my patients about stress management, I always inform them that a pill simply won’t help to manage the root causes of their stress. A simple hack that I like to recommend to my patients is to prepare their to-do list the night before. Preparation for the next day is key to managing your life-load.

Yesterday I heard a cool mnemonic - BANJO - that resonated with this way of working. I will be adapting my advice to incorporate this in to the evening prep routine. In your list, highlight your one BANJO that you can do the next day before every other job on your list.

Bang
A
Nasty
Job
Out
of your list and it’s done, gone, achieved. This sense of achievement will empower you to have further productivity, impacting your mood, mindset and behaviours for the rest of the day.

Whether it’s the gym, that email, those accounts, that call, whatever just BANJO it. This leaves you to focus on the less stressful tasks, feeling motivated, having ticked off that job that you would have inevitably put off to a later time that would never come..

So friends, let’s BANJO everyday
