Dr Punam Krishan

Hello and thank you for visiting my site.

Reading Is Medicine

Reading Is Medicine

This is a fact and I prescribe this to my patients.

If you read about habits of successful people, you will always find daily reading as one of them.

I don’t mean reading trash, I mean reading something that stimulates the mind to become more alive. The news, a book of your favourite genre, a good quality magazine/journal...

Research has shown that reading brings existing neural pathways in the brain to life and can reduce mental decline by more than 30%.

Think of a good, gripping book you’ve read (listened) - your mind switches on! You remember the plot, the characters, you become animated - this is exercise for your brain, helping it make new connections thus creating new memory. Brain power!

Reading can slow down and reduce your chances of developing memory impairment and conditions like Alzheimer’s in later life too.

It’s the same for kids. Did you know that a children’s book will expose your kid to 50% more words than watching a programme on TV.

So.....try and make reading a habit for a minimum of 30 minutes a day, if you can. Why not consider making it your #1change?

Your brain is like a muscle - it wants exercise too so let it work, get creative and let it unlock doorways to unknown territory.
